Remote Job Description
Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.
As a technical writer in the Google Cloud Architecture Content team, you'll contribute to a wide variety of architecture use cases that simplify the process of designing, building, deploying, and managing applications on Google Cloud. You'll work with Solutions Architects, Customer Engineers, product managers, tech writers, and content strategists. You’ll have an opportunity to meet with customers to understand their pain points, delivering solutions that scale to the needs of many. Your words will have immediate impact and long-term value.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $121,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Solutions Architects and Customer Engineers to develop cross-product architecture guidance, spanning security, networking, compute, storage, and other areas.
- Write technical architecture guidance, including design guides and reference architectures.
- Participate in gap analysis and customer research to help us identify content needs.
- Contribute thought leadership, helping us improve and evolve Google Cloud architecture guidance.
- Contribute content management expertise, as we transform legacy content formats into new ones.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience as an Information Architect or Content Strategist.
- 2 years of experience in technical writing.
Preferred qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in technical writing.
- 2 years of experience leading projects, initiatives, or teams.
- Experience in documenting architectural guidance that spans multiple technologies.
- Experience writing for the web and familiarity with Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Ability to manage multiple engaging priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, and read and understand source code written in Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
- Ability to deliver communications and documentation in the format best suited for diverse audiences, and influence and persuade others without direct authority.
