Remote Job Description
As a Product Manager on our Developer Tools team, you will have the opportunity to work on the tools that developers use every day to work with the MongoDB data platform. Our team builds MongoDB Compass, the MongoDB Shell, and IDE integrations and extensions. As our product area continues to grow, you'll have the chance to take ownership of part of our portfolio and lead it to new heights.
We expect you to become a developer experience expert, understand the areas where we can help our community of developers and our customers, and drive our developer tools strategy accordingly.
About the team
We are a highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, and Product Marketers all working together to make the experience of working with data easy and enjoyable for developers.
We are a distributed team; stretching from our offices in NYC to other locations in US. Every now and then, we all meet at one of our offices for project kickoffs, workshops, and other team events.
This role can be based out of our NYC offices or remotely in US (Eastern time zone).
Role Responsibilities
- Explore the problem space, interact with stakeholders, formulate the vision, and own the roadmap of your product area while keeping it aligned with the company’s strategic priorities
- Work with the Engineering team to define and prioritize projects including customer requests, tech debt, and specific initiatives
- Actively maintain a view of how the market, competition, and technologies evolve, and factor competitive information and customer feedback into our product direction
- Communicate complex concepts in a manner that is easily understood by multiple audiences
- End-to-end ownership of your product area: contribute to documentation, blog posts, demos, and marketing materials for new features, all while looking at data to make sure we are meeting our success metrics
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to collaborate with people from different parts of the company
- Strong customer empathy: you need to understand the pain points our customers are facing and work with your team and customer-facing stakeholders to translate them into actionable solutions
- Technically strong: you understand how software is built, packaged, deployed, and operated — our users are developers and you should be able to step into their shoes
- The ability to communicate technical content to diverse non-technical audiences
- The desire to understand the database and software development markets
- Experience with the full product development process: ideation, research, creation, design, execution, quality testing, etc.
- B.Sc. in a Computer Science preferred or equivalent work experience
Nice to have
- You enjoy digging through data to understand if you are going in the right direction and discover new opportunities
- You have some software engineering experience and you like staying up-to-date with the development market trends
