Job summary

The Red Hat Real Time Kernel team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be part of a growing team focused on software development for both kernel and user space packages for the real-time Linux kernel. You will work to improve the real-time behavior of the kernel as well as package the kernel for delivery. As a Software Engineer, you will also work with the Quality Engineering (QE) and Continuous Integration (CI) Development teams to plan major Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Real Time (RHEL-RT) releases. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Extend and improve the existing code base
  • Package the kernel for delivery
  • Participate in the broader upstream Linux community
  • Backport fixes to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) releases
  • Contribute new development work
  • Collaborate with the Engineering, QE, Product Management, Documentation, and Product Build teams, as well as the open source community
  • Communicate and help coordinate dates, deliverables, feature requirements, roadmaps, etc., for the offering with the project community

Required skills

  • Expertise in Linux kernel development
  • Knowledge of Git and upstream Linux kernel patch posting procedures, or experience with upstream development
  • Experience with backporting upstream code to Linux distributions, kernel configuration, building, and testing
  • Ability to work on your own in a small team environment
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks
