Remote Job Description
We are looking for a Principal Engineer for Cloud Business Intelligence (BI) that is passionate about reinventing data analytics and building the next generation of Business Intelligence capabilities for our customers. Those capabilities will be based on the Looker and Data Studio foundations, involving various technologies, subsystems, user-facing APIs and SDKs, libraries, tools and infrastructure elements to support both Google Cloud specific and multi-cloud services.
In this role, you will evolve, refactor, or redesign our system architecture to meet the increasing demands of scale, reliability, performance, and simplicity. You will also deliver on performance requirements of analytics workloads, both for Modern Business Intelligence and Embedded Analytics use-cases. You will help redesign our engineering tooling and processes to deliver value to our customers, balancing the use of what is available internally and extended.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $256,000-$384,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Set the technical goal and strategy for delivering on requirements of high scale, reliability, performance, and development velocity.
- Drive standards for engineering excellence that lead to scale and customer satisfaction.
- Partner with Engineering and Product Management on the definition and development of features.
- Engage with internal and external customers on discussions of product requirements, solution architecture, and emerging requirements and issues.
- Mentor other technical leaders and individual contributors.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- 15 years of experience in SaaS web applications architecture and building scalable systems.
- Experience driving key product innovations and technical roadmap across stakeholders.
- Experience engineering and operating data-focused systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering or computer science.
- Experience balancing legacy migrations and greenfield development.
- Experience in business intelligence, reporting/dashboarding, and embedded analytics.
- Experience interacting with customers to represent the team and the organization.
- Understanding of the technology involved in analytics (e.g., ETL, data governance, BI tools).
